Glynn Turman

Glynn Turman

Emmy Award Winning Actor, Director & Cowboy

Turman started his career at the tender age of twelve in the legendary Lorraine Hansberry’s landmark Broadway production of “A Raisin in the Sun” with Sidney Poitier and Ruby Dee. Glynn has had several leading roles on television, but perhaps is best remembered as the staunch ‘Colonel Taylor’ on the NBC-TV series “A Different World.”

In addition to television, Glynn has starred in a number of feature films including the cult classic “Cooley High”, Super 8, Takers, Sahara, Burlesque, Men of Honor, The Inkwell, Gremlins and JD’s Revenge. He has been seen on HBO’s hit series “The Wire” and the New York native earned his first Emmy® Award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series for his role on the HBO series ‘In Treatment’. Glynn is the winner of multiple NAACP Image Awards, Theatre Lifetime Achievement Awards and two Ovation Awards for Outstanding Lead Actor. He is currently co-starring in the hit Showtime Original Series, “House of Lies” starring Don Cheadle.

Glynn and his wife and his wife Jo-An co-founded and direct a free western style summer camp “Camp Gid D Up” for inner-city and at risk youth since 1992. Attending youth camps as a kid saved him from juvenile delinquency.

He is also an accomplished horseman, a real cowboy and rodeo champion. In 1999, Glynn won the state’s Regional Team Roping Finals and placed in the top 5 in the National US Team Roping Champion Finals in Oklahoma City. In November 2011 Glynn was inducted into the Western Heritage Multi-Cultural Museum’s Hall of Fame in Ft. Worth Texas.

Lugenia Ricks

Lugenia Ricks

As the founder and director of the Rodeo Wranglers Youth Equestrian Group established in 1996, our mission was to provide inner city kids with a different perspective outside the context of heir familiar. We knew that introducing them to horsemanship and the equestrian way of life could open up new doors and possibilities to youth who would otherwise not experience such.

Seventeen years later I know that I made the right decision because of the difference Rodeo Wranglers Youth Equestrian Group makes in the lives of the youth that participate. As a founding member and Vice-President of the West Coast Cowboys and Cowgirls Association and my love for life, youth and the western heritage, I am proud to serve as a Founding Partner of the American Soul Charity Rodeo.

Welcome and thanks for your support.
